Around 12,000 runners registered for the 39th edition of the marathon on the Main. In total, including the relays and other competitions, 20,000 participants are expected at the major running event. Ethiopian Betesfa Getahun is one of the favorites for the men with a personal best of 2:05:28. The Kenyan Sally Kaptich is the fastest on the start list with 2:21:09 hours.
The goal of German marathon champion Hendrik Pfeiffer from Hanover and Filimon Abraham from Regensburg from Eritrea is to undercut the norm for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest of 2:09:40 hours.
