Hesse: Minister: Risk groups should wear corona masks indoors

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's Health Minister Kai Klose has called on older people and those with previous illnesses in particular to wear a mask indoors to protect against corona infection. "Everyone can help prevent hospitals from being overloaded," he said in Wiesbaden on Tuesday. The patients with Covid-19 who are currently being treated in the clinics are predominantly older and previously ill people, including a disproportionately large number of unvaccinated people.

In a letter, the minister also called on care facilities to have the residents’ corona vaccination protection refreshed with one of the new vaccines. "If possible, the flu vaccination should also be given at the same time, because influenza can also be life-threatening for risk groups."

According to von Klose, the situation in Hesse's hospitals is tense. More than 2,200 corona patients are currently being treated in normal wards, more than 180 in the intensive care units of the clinics. "In addition, the hospitals are currently having to cope with a significant loss of staff due to Corona, but also other respiratory diseases," explained the minister.
