Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - More and more expensive cars are being stolen in Hesse. This emerges from the theft report published by the insurance companies on Monday. Your general association (GDV) registered 519 reported stolen cars in Hesse last year, which was two percent more than in 2020. According to the information, the insurance companies paid an average of around 20,700 euros to the vehicle owners for each car. In the previous year it was a good 5000 euros less. The association estimated the total damage at around 10.8 million euros. The value of the stolen cars was on average 34 percent higher than in the previous year.
With 288, most thefts were reported from the administrative district of Darmstadt (excluding Frankfurt). The other two administrative districts of Kassel (89) and Giessen (54) follow. In all three, the numbers have gone up compared to the previous year. In contrast, the trend for Frankfurt was downward. There are 88 thefts and with an average of almost 18,000 euros the lowest damage per case in the statistics.
The Hessian theft rate is 0.2 per 1000 comprehensively insured cars and thus in the national average. According to the report, the highest theft rate is in Berlin and the lowest in Baden-Württemberg. According to the insurance companies, the thieves mainly steal high-quality SUVs.
