Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The state government does not want to secure the Internet domain with the ".hessen" ending. According to the response from the Hessian Ministry for Digital Strategy and Development to a question from the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament, there is no equivalent benefit to the effort involved in introducing, providing and maintaining it. The project was repeatedly examined, but was rejected due to financial and organizational considerations.
Such a so-called top-level domain could offer regional companies, start-ups, freelancers and institutions in particular the opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition with a memorable web address, the SPD explained. The parliamentary group referred to examples such as ".saarland", ".berlin" and ".hamburg".
