Hesse: No space for cars: Mainkai closed for the summer festival

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - No traffic noise, but space to stroll or romp: The inner-city part of the northern bank of the Main in Frankfurt has already been closed for a festival. Artists and volunteers have given the street a new coat of paint. City officials want to present the summer program there today.

The Mainkai had already been closed for a year in a controversial traffic attempt - from July 2019 to August 2020. This time the change of use should last until September 5th.

The Urban Space Festival starts this Friday east of the Historical Museum. During the Hessian summer holidays (until September 2nd) the Mainkai is supposed to be a place for young and old to let off steam. Sports, culture and education should be the focus here. A "Mainkai workshop" is intended to invite visitors to exchange ideas and discuss things.
