Hesse: robbery and murder of a jewelry dealer: prosecution calls for life imprisonment

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has demanded a life sentence for a 32-year-old man for his part in a fatal robbery of a jewelry dealer couple. In the process that has been running since December, she pleaded on Wednesday that murder was out of greed and to enable further crimes to be committed, as well as attempted murder and robbery resulting in death. In the attack in October 2017 in Frankfurt-Griesheim, the 78-year-old jewelry dealer was killed and his wife of the same age was seriously injured. The jury will announce the verdict on Monday (July 4th).

The couple had been attacked by four men in their home. Another accomplice was standing in front of the nearby jewelry store, Schmiere. Four of the defendants have since been sentenced to several years in prison. The 32-year-old Moldovan managed to escape to his homeland and from there to Russia, where he was only arrested in August 2021 and later extradited to Germany.

In court, he protested that he was shocked by the brutality of his accomplices. According to the public prosecutor's office, however, he himself was involved in the abuse of the spouses. The businessman died from multiple injuries. The defense pleaded for aggravated robbery, but did not commit to the penalty.
