Hesse: runoff candidates for mayoral office: lot decides

Nauheim (dpa / lhe) - Only the drawing of lots brought clarity. After a stalemate between the runners-up in the mayoral election in Nauheim (Groß-Gerau district), luck has now decided the runoff. The Social Democrat Rosalia Radosti won the draw against the Christian Democrat Max Hochstätter, a city spokeswoman said on Wednesday. Both had achieved 796 votes or 17.8 percent in the election. That is why the rare search for the challenger in the run-off election on March 19 took place on Tuesday evening in the municipality with almost 11,000 inhabitants.

Radosti is now up against non-party Roland Kappes, who received 43.2 percent of the vote in Sunday's election. In total there were five applicants for the post of mayor. The still incumbent mayor, the CDU politician Jan Fischer, did not stand again after two terms in office.
