Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - According to preliminary figures from the German Weather Service (DWD), this year's summer is the sunniest in Hesse since recording began more than 70 years ago. According to the previous measurements and including the forecast up to the end of the month, there are 857 hours of sunshine this summer, as meteorologist Andreas Friedrich from the DWD in Offenbach said. The previous record was set in summer 2003 with 814.4 hours. According to the DWD, a maximum of 817 hours of sunshine was also recorded nationwide.

The DWD is presenting its preliminary balance sheet for the summer of 2022 this Tuesday. The Weather Service has been recording sunshine hours since 1951. Temperatures and precipitation have been recorded continuously since 1881. Meteorological autumn begins on September 1st.
