Bad Hersfeld (dpa/lhe) - A driver of a towing service was hit by a truck in a traffic accident near Bad Hersfeld on Saturday and was fatally injured. According to the police, the man between the Bad Hersfeld-West and Homberg/Efze junctions had pulled a broken-down car onto the flatbed of the tow truck and properly secured it. When he wanted to walk from the rear of the tow truck between the hard shoulder and the right-hand lane of the freeway in the direction of the driver's cab, he was hit by the articulated lorry that was driving on the right-hand lane.
The 43-year-old driver of the truck immediately steered his vehicle onto the hard shoulder. Despite resuscitation measures, the driver of the tow truck succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. By order of the Fulda public prosecutor's office, an expert was called in to reconstruct the course of the accident.
The highway was completely closed for about an hour and a half during the rescue work. A rescue helicopter was also at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer appeared unharmed.
