Hesse: Truck drives into breakdown car: A5 temporarily blocked

Neu-Isenburg (dpa/lhe) - A breakdown car and a suspected drunk truck driver caused a short-term northbound closure on Autobahn 5 near Frankfurt Airport. The motorway police were informed early Sunday morning about a broken down car that was parked in the right lane between the Langen/Mörfelden and Zeppelinheim junctions in the area of a construction site. Before officers arrived, a truck crashed into the parked car. According to the police, nobody was injured, but the motorway had to be closed for about an hour in the direction of Frankfurt because of the accident vehicles and debris lying around.

The driver of the broken-down car had disappeared before the accident; he later reported himself to the police. It was initially unclear why he left his car on the freeway. The police officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol in the 55-year-old truck driver and ordered a blood test. It is now being determined whether the alcohol or the lack of protection of the vehicle caused the accident.
