The rumor mill is bubbling: will Boris Becker be deported to Germany from his detention in Great Britain? Is he possibly already there? Meanwhile, the first scenes of a new documentary about the 55-year-old are published. They show Becker in tears.

Apple TV has announced a two-part documentary about Boris Becker. According to a statement from the streaming service, the production should "shed light on all aspects of the man" who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for delaying bankruptcy in Great Britain. However, a specific release date is not yet known.

The two Oscar winners Alex Gibney and John Battsek are responsible for directing and producing. They are said to have had exclusive access to the former professional athlete - before he entered prison, mind you.

On the one hand, Becker's successful career is said to be highlighted in the documentation - from the beginning, when he won Wimbledon for the first time when he was only 17, to his 49 titles in total, including six Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal. On the other hand, it will also be about Becker's "sometimes turbulent private life," according to the announcement.

The documentation is based, among other things, on interviews with close family members and companions. For example, former tennis stars such as John McEnroe, Björn Borg, Mats Wilander and Michael Stich should have their say, as should Becker's former protégé Novak Djokovic.

Most importantly, however, Becker himself gave a number of personal interviews, including one the week of his sentencing. A short preliminary excerpt was published from this conversation, in which the 55-year-old speaks into the camera with tears. "I'll face it," you can hear him sobbing. He will not "hide or run away" and will accept any judgment. "It's Wednesday afternoon, by Friday I'll know about the rest of my life."

The verdict, which was pronounced on Friday, April 29, 2022, finally provided for two and a half years in prison for Becker. Since then, the former tennis star has been in prison in England. Or is he possibly already free again?

These rumors persist. Speculations circulated on Wednesday morning that Becker's deportation was imminent. He is already expected on board a private plane in Munich in the afternoon. But this assumption has not been confirmed. It is currently believed that he is still being held in Huntercombe Prison near London. However, deportation to Germany would probably be possible at any time. The legal requirements for this should be in place.
