The member of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Álvaro Cuesta, former deputy of the PSOE and very close to the Government of Pedro Sánchez, has proposed to the directors of the progressive sector of the body that they address his resignation en bloc after the announcement of resignation by part of the vowel Concepción Sáez.

According to legal sources reported to EL MUNDO, Cuesta has asked the councilors of the progressive sector to meet tomorrow to "open" the debate on the current situation that the CGPJ is going through - with the mandate extended since the end of 2018 - and discuss the resignation of the vowels in a coordinated way. This vowel also considers that the announcement should be addressed in plenary session next week. This has been transmitted to President Rafael Mozo.

The member considers that after the resignation of President Carlos Lesmes and the announcement of Sáez's resignation, the presence of the progressive members of the CGPJ "is evident". Cuesta has told his groupmates that he feels as tied to the Council given the impossibility of Parliament to renew it as those who have already resigned.

On the other hand, the counselor has slipped the idea that if eight members agree to resign from office, the Plenary of the CGPJ will be unable to operate, thus being able to force the political groups to reach an agreement on the renewal of the body .

Along with Sáez, Cuesta is one of the members who, in successive plenary sessions, has come to point out that it would be opportune to adopt a resignation en bloc to try to achieve a renewal of the governing body of judges. However, the truth is that during these four years of extended mandate, the member, who is part of the Permanent Commission (having exclusive dedication to the position and a salary of 125,366 euros gross per year), has never submitted his resignation.

Different members consulted this Thursday by this newspaper, both conservative and progressive, ruled out the option of resigning as a result of the announcement of the member proposed by Izquierda Unida. Sáez's resignation has not yet been accepted by President Mozo and will be dealt with in plenary session on the 30th.

Sources from the progressive group admit that Cuesta's approach does not have the unanimous support of the members of this sector of the CGPJ and they frame their proposal within a "political maneuver directed by Moncloa".
