Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 405 homeless people lived in emergency shelters, homes or communal apartments for those affected a year ago. Nationwide there were 178,000, said the Ministry of Social Affairs in Schwerin on Wednesday. In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the data was recorded for the second time by the Federal Statistical Office. The results would be available in a few months.

Social Affairs Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) emphasized that the introduction of the nationwide homeless statistics goes back to an application by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2017 at the Conference of Labor and Social Affairs Ministers. It is important in order to be able to create social offers and aid measures where they are needed.
