Hesse: First courts only work digitally for new items

Limburg/Kassel (dpa/lhe) - Hesse is making progress with the introduction of electronic files in the judiciary. New entries in civil proceedings before the Limburg Regional Court and all proceedings before the Kassel Social Court are only conducted electronically, Justice Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) announced on Wednesday in Wiesbaden.

Until now, both courts had to create parallel paper files in addition to the electronic files. This double file management is now a thing of the past for new arrivals, the minister explained. "Paper files will gradually disappear from everyday judiciary." The digitization of the Hessian judiciary is on the right track.

In the further digitization process, efforts are being made to keep the time for double file management as short as possible, Poseck reported. It is therefore planned for the other courts to switch to the leading electronic file on the first of the month following their introduction.

The law stipulates that the entire judiciary in Germany will work with the electronic file from January 1, 2026. According to the Minister of Justice, the processes in Hesse are based on this requirement.
