Rechlin (dpa / mv) - A bomb has been found again in Rechlin (Mecklenburg Lake District). As a police spokeswoman said on Thursday, the find was reported on Wednesday. The bomb with two detonators, which probably dates back to the Second World War, as it did last March, was discovered during exploratory work on a former military property south of the Müritz. According to experts, there is currently no danger to residents; experts from the ammunition recovery service are expected to defuse and recover the bomb next week.
In 1945, Rechlin and Lärz were the testing centers for the German Air Force, employing several thousand people. The huge area, a large part of which is still a restricted area, was bombed several times at the end of the war. Part of the site at Claassee was used as a military camp in the GDR and by the Bundeswehr after 1990. The Bundeswehr had given up on it several years ago. The municipality is currently having the property cleared so that buyers can use it.
Should a defuse be necessary, as was the case last March, some residents and holidaymakers would have to leave their accommodations within a radius of one kilometer, and companies such as boat rental companies and shipyards would have to stop their work.
