Lärz (dpa / mv) - Another bomb was found during construction work on the airfield in Lärz (Mecklenburg Lake District). The dud from the Second World War is to be defused this Thursday, as a spokesman for the Röbel office said on Wednesday. It is said to be a 125-kilogram aircraft bomb of American design with a rear fuse. In the course of the extensive closure, the federal highway 198 must also be temporarily closed in the early afternoon.
It is the second bomb found at the airfield and the fifth dud found in the Rechlin/Lärz region within a few months. A bomb weighing 500 kilograms was detonated in a controlled manner at the airfield in November. The other duds turned up north of Rechlin while investigating a former military depot.
Before 1945 there was a testing center for the German Air Force in the region with several thousand employees. The huge area, part of which is still a restricted area today, was bombed several times at the end of the war.
