Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: carrier pigeon takes a break on the return flight: federal police help

Rostock (dpa/mv) - The federal police in Rostock helped a carrier pigeon breeder in the search for a missing valuable breeding animal on the sidelines of the operation at the game of the second division soccer team Hansa Rostock against Hannover 96. As a spokesman for the federal police said on Monday, an officer discovered a hungry pigeon at the train station in Rostock on Sunday afternoon. The official recognized from the ringing that it was a breeding animal and caught the trusting bird. The breeder from Wismar was contacted immediately.

He stated that he had been to an event in Poland with the pigeon on Saturday. From there he had sent the carrier pigeon towards Wismar. The bird - which actually travels faster than a car - had not arrived in Wismar.

The spokesman said it was unclear whether this was due to the food that was produced by the baker at the station. In any case, the animal was so valuable to the breeder that he immediately picked it up by car from the rest stop in Rostock. The federal police then turned their attention back to the departure of football fans from Hanover, it said.
