Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: City may limit party noise and alcohol at the lake

Neubrandenburg/Greifswald (dpa/mv) - The city of Neubrandenburg may dictate to organizers that loud electronic music is only played and alcohol is drunk at a vantage point on Lake Tollense and on a bathing beach up to a certain time. This was announced by the Higher Administrative Court of Greifswald on Monday. Specifically, such projects should only take place until 8 p.m. on the popular, listed Belvedere viewing platform on the west bank and until 10 p.m. on the neighboring Brodaer Strand. The Higher Administrative Court thus rejected an action by an operator for the temporary suspension of the corresponding city ordinance from 2021.

Local residents had previously complained to the city about party noise. In addition, there were police operations, and several hundred party guests with loud speakers were sometimes found there. The 1st Senate of the Higher Administrative Court is of the opinion that there should be nothing fundamentally wrong with the ban on playing electronically amplified music at the locations mentioned. The plaintiff can be expected to adhere to the specifications of the city ordinance with her leisure time until a decision is made in the main proceedings, it said.
