Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Compromise on Useriner See still applies

Userin (dpa / mv) - The Useriner See, which is located in the Müritz National Park, may continue to be used by residents for swimming and sailing - but with restrictions. The municipality and the administration of the national park have agreed that the general decree drawn up in 2018 will be continued, as both sides announced on Tuesday. This should apply until 2027 and be accompanied by researchers. So there should be three bathing areas in the village on the east bank, in Useriner Mühle in the south and at the campsite on the west bank.

The waters may only be navigated with "muscle-powered watercraft" up to seven meters in length and sailing boats with a maximum sail area of 20 square meters. As on other bodies of water in the national park, the use of motors was prohibited. Anglers should be allowed to fish from boats, existing facilities and open shore areas.

The dispute over the use of Lake Userin lasted twelve years. A working group had worked out the compromise over two years. The Useriner See is five kilometers long and one kilometer wide and is traversed by the Havel. The region is popular with tourists. At national park lakes there are always disputes between tourism companies, fishermen and the national park administration due to strict restrictions.
