Schwerin (dpa/mv) - By reaching the DVV Cup final in Mannheim, the volleyball players from SSC Palmberg Schwerin have achieved one of their two minimum goals this season. On Sunday (4.45 p.m.) the crowning glory should follow against SC Potsdam in the first of two competitions. Although the Mecklenburg team won the first half of the Bundesliga game at the end of December and are only two points behind the current second in the table, coach Felix Koslowski made it clear on Tuesday: "You don't have to talk about roles as favourites. Potsdam is having an excellent season. They won the Supercup and in the league they play very consistently and at a high level."

Koslowski attributed the fact that his team had inflicted the first defeat of the season on the leader at the time to a "good moment". However, he pointed out that this game was almost two months ago. "Potsdam has developed further, we have continued to work on ourselves. Accordingly, we will see a match between two very good teams."

The women from Potsdam were still challenged on the European stage on Tuesday evening. As third in the group stage in the Champions League, SC has qualified for the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup. It almost came to a duel with the SSC in the round of the top eight clubs, but Koslowski's selection had to admit defeat in the playoff round Scandicci from Italy. Otherwise both teams would have faced each other three times within nine days.
