Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: District administrator emphasizes acceptance as a factor for integration

Grevesmühlen (dpa/mv) - The district administrator of Northwest Mecklenburg is asking for help from the state and federal government to meet the challenges of accommodating refugees. "The decisive thing is that we need acceptance in order to be able to integrate," said district administrator Tino Schomann (CDU) on Wednesday to the district council in Grevesmühlen.

He does not see small-scale proposals to accommodate refugees in individual apartments as expedient. No security guards and no close supervision can be guaranteed here. Schomann doubted that this would be accepted.

According to the CDU politician, the district must expect to have to accommodate 800 to 1,200 refugees this year. Schomann emphasizes that expanding the capacities in the country's initial reception would create time to find longer-term accommodation options. He again addressed the state and federal level: "It is important that we are able to take in the asylum seekers and refugees who come to us."
