North Rhine-Westphalia: Wüst demands more speed from the federal government at Rahmedetalbrücke

Lennestadt (dpa / lnw) - NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has demanded more speed from the traffic lights in the federal government for climate protection and important infrastructure projects. For example, when building the Rahmedetalbrücke on the Autobahn 45, the federal government must show "that Germany can move fast" - as with the rapid construction of the LNG terminals, Wüst demanded at the Political Ash Wednesday of the NRW-CDU in Lennestadt in the Sauerland. "They could get a taste for it now. They could get interested in it and say: We're going to do it like this everywhere."

Wüst criticized the fact that the traffic light coalition in the federal government was arguing too much about whether the expansion of renewable energies or the expansion of the motorway network should have priority. You have to do both. "Treat yourself! Treat yourself, traffic light, to mutual success!" cried the CDU state chief. "That is your task for Germany and the people."

If Germany does not manage to remain a successful industrialized country despite all efforts to protect the climate, then other countries such as India will not follow on the path to more climate protection.

The Rahmedetal Bridge near Lüdenscheid in Sauerland had to be closed in December 2021 due to damage. Since then, an important traffic artery has been interrupted with the A45, and the detour traffic is a burden on an entire region. Wüst was NRW Minister of Transport from 2017 to October 2021. The opposition is threatening him with a committee of inquiry and wants to find out what responsibility the current head of government bears for the traffic disaster.
