It was an open secret that, after two and a half months of waiting, it already has a date of entry into Congress. Vox will register the motion of no confidence against Pedro Sánchez with Ramón Tamames as candidate next Monday in the Lower House. This has been confirmed by the party itself after the last "fringes" of the negotiation with the professor and economist have been closed in the last few hours.
As EL MUNDO published this Tuesday, the former PCE deputy, after several weeks reflecting on the offer, transmitted late on Tuesday that he was willing to accept the commission from the party led by Santiago Abascal. From the formation, however, they demanded caution while the final details of the motion of censure were polished, which will be the sixth that is presented against a president of the Government in our democracy. But the commitment on the part of both parties was to officially announce this Wednesday the date of registration of the document in the Chamber, to activate the call period as soon as possible.
Tamames and Abascal have met at the Vox national headquarters, accompanied by the party leadership and the "work team" selected by Tamames himself from among his entourage: Christian Careaga, Vicente Dalda, Lorenzo Garrido, Tomás Prieto-Castro, Fernando Sánchez Dragó, José Ignacio Rodrigo, Emmanuel Tamames and Moncho Tamames. All of them have posed for a family photo that illustrates the ad.
"The deputies of Vox want to offer the platform of Congress to an independent Spaniard, with a brilliant intellectual career, a symbol of national reconciliation, so that he represents millions of Spaniards who, beyond parties, demand an immediate resignation of a government contrary to the interests of the nation", Santiago Abascal expressed after the meeting in which Tamames' candidacy was made official. The parliamentary spokesman for Vox, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, and the party's general secretary, Ignacio Garriga, also participated in the meeting.
Vox now has to propose the motion of censure by registering it in Congress and presenting a reasoned brief to the Board of the Chamber. Said letter must include the name of the candidate who proposes to dispute Pedro Sánchez for the presidency. The Bureau will verify that the motion meets all the requirements and will admit it for processing, informing the President of the Government and the spokespersons of all the parliamentary groups of its presentation.
From that moment, the Board will open a period of two days during which alternative motions may be presented. It corresponds to the Presidency of the Chamber to set the final date and time in which the motion will be voted on, but in no case could it be before five days have elapsed from its presentation in the Congressional Record.
If Vox registers its motion next Monday, February 27, the vote on it in Congress could not take place before March 5.
The debate will begin with the defense of the motion by one of the deputies who signed it. In this intervention you will have unlimited time. Then, the proposed candidate can intervene also without time limit to expose the political program of the Executive that he aspires to form.
After a period of time established by the president of the Chamber, the representatives of the parliamentary groups may intervene for a period of 30 minutes. All of them will also have a reply time of ten minutes. The motion of censure only prospers if at least the absolute majority of the members of Congress vote in favor of it.
