Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: EU funding for in-service training

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - With seven million euros from the EU fund for regional development, the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Schwerin is promoting the in-service qualification of employees in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. “Companies should definitely take the opportunity for their employees to seek support with the necessary qualifications,” Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) appealed to companies on Monday. For the funding period running until 2027, the funds have been increased by one million euros and the funding guidelines have been revised.

Meyer is convinced that professional training is becoming more and more important in view of the increasing problems of recruiting skilled workers. Employees would thus be able to cope with new tasks. "The qualification guideline, which has been adapted to current requirements, is available as a helpful tool," emphasized the minister, referring to the changes published in the Official Journal on Monday.

Accordingly, the group of recipients of grants has been expanded. According to the ministry, it is no longer just companies with national sales that receive funding. It is sufficient that they have their registered office, branch office or permanent establishment in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From now on, the funding rate is generally 50 percent, the amount of the education checks handed out is a maximum of 3000 euros. The lower limit for funded project costs has been lifted.

According to the ministry, around 20,000 education checks with a total volume of around 5.3 million euros were issued in the funding period from 2015 to 2022. In addition, 580,000 euros were paid for company-specific projects.
