Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: FDP parliamentary group leader calls for a fight against the right

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The head of the liberals in the Schwerin state parliament, René Domke, has called for decisive action against right-wing extremists in view of an increase in attacks on refugee accommodation. "We must never again allow crises and fears to be used by political forces to divide the population," said the politician on Wednesday in Schwerin. Rostock-Lichtenhagen should not be repeated anywhere in Germany.

The FDP politician referred, among other things, to an incident on Monday in Apolda, Thuringia. An unknown person had set pallets on fire near a refugee camp.

Domke pointed out that the most recent report by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution rated right-wing extremism as the greatest threat to democracy in Germany. This threat must be fought with all legal means.

In view of the challenges that the accommodation of a large number of refugees from Ukraine poses - including for the municipalities - he said: "There can only be a solution here in a joint effort, and that clearly includes the federal government".
