Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ministry: 46 right-wing extremists and 11 Reich citizens with weapons

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 46 people who belong to the right-wing extremist scene own firearms. They have a total of 260 weapons, as the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday. In addition, there are eleven so-called Reichsbürger or self-governors in the country with 28 permitted firearms. The "Schweriner Volkszeitung" had previously reported.

Last week there was a nationwide raid against 25 suspects from the Reich citizen scene who are said to have planned a violent coup. There was no search in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

According to the findings of the investigators, the suspects were planning, among other things, an armed attack on the Bundestag. Since then there has been discussion about tightening gun laws. Hunters and sports shooters are currently allowed to legally own firearms in Germany.
