"With the upcoming amendment of the MV Monument Protection Act, it is imperative to establish accessibility," Crone demanded on Friday. He reported on a case in which an urgently needed elevator had not been approved with reference to the Monument Protection Act. This Saturday (December 3rd) is the Day of People with Disabilities. There are more than 30,000 monuments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The Ombudsman was critical of the implementation of the Federal Participation Act, which aims to improve the lives of people with disabilities. According to him, those affected criticize the very long duration of the procedure to determine their needs. "More staff must be deployed here or consideration must be given to simplifying the procedures," says Crone. In addition, the services then approved are often not provided individually, but pooled together in order to save money. However, the ombudsman warned that there should not be any assistance based on the cash situation.
