Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: MV started the new year: Grabow town hall damaged

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - After two quiet turns of the year due to corona, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania started the year 2023 with a lot of banging. There were numerous incidents. The police deployed around 500 operations nationwide, as the police headquarters in Rostock and Neubrandenburg announced on New Year's Day. This roughly corresponds to the level before the corona pandemic with its restrictions. Around 40 people were injured in accidents, when fireworks were set off or in fights.

In Grabow (Ludwigslust-Parchim district), pressure waves from a pyrotechnics explosion destroyed several panes of the town hall and a neighboring building. The damage is estimated at 30,000 euros. The criminal police are investigating the cause of an explosives explosion.

In Anklam (Vorpommern-Greifswald district), a fire probably broke out on a balcony on the fourth floor of an apartment building when the cannons were fired, causing an estimated 50,000 euros in damage.

In Carpin (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district), a carport and a car parked underneath caught fire. A solar system, a kennel and the adjacent wall of the house were also damaged by the flames. The damage amounts to around 150,000 euros. In this case, however, the police do not assume a crime, but an accident. The cause was initially unclear.

In Rostock, strangers set fire to a stroller parked in the stairwell of an apartment building. A resident suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital.

In Storkow (Vorpommern-Greifswald district), a car burned out completely - the police suspect that it caught fire from a firework.
