Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences: Energy costs endanger finances

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences is worried about its financing. Since there is no financial help from the state for the increased energy costs and reserves are also to be reduced, the ability of the educational institution to work is at risk, the Senate of the university announced on Wednesday in Neubrandenburg. One appeals to Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) to secure adequate funding for the universities in the north-east, even with the sharp rise in costs. That has not been the case so far.

The reduction plans for reserves, the use of which is already planned, is also only planned in Neubrandenburg. In contrast, additional costs for general schools and the state administration would be absorbed automatically.

At the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences, which is located on the state border with Brandenburg, almost 2,200 women and men study more than 30 courses, most of them from Berlin and Brandenburg due to the proximity. The focal points are health, care, social work, nutrition as well as sustainable structural change and the conversion of rural regions.
