Punk icon is happy: Nina Hagen has become a grandmother

After the loss of her mother in August, Nina Hagen can now look forward to a new addition to the family. At the age of 67 she became a grandmother for the first time. In addition, a new album from the 80s punk icon is coming soon.

Nina Hagen cannot complain about boredom at the moment. A new album by the singer is currently in the starting blocks and should hit stores in early December. On "Unity" Hagen will present twelve fresh songs. "Western twang meets spacey synth surfaces and rock-pop meets dub and sexy slow funk," promises the associated press release. The single "16 Tons" can already be heard in advance.

Currently, the 67-year-old should focus on something else, namely the family. As is now known, Hagen's 32-year-old son Otis has just made her a grandmother. Otis and his girlfriend Yolanda became parents for the first time, as Nina Hagen confirmed to the "Bild" newspaper. "Hooray, I'm grandmother! I'm really happy about the arrival of our new family member," the newspaper quoted the legendary musician as saying.

The news of the arrival of the offspring, whose name or gender has so far been kept secret, comes just a few weeks after that of the death of Eva-Maria Hagen, Nina Hagen's mother. The well-known actress, once celebrated as the "Brigitte Bardot of the GDR", died on August 16 at the age of 87. "We mourn with longing, with love and gratitude. Nina, Cosma and Otis Hagen – as well as all their friends, companions," said the message, which the management distributed on behalf of the family at the time.

Otis is Nina Hagen's only son and comes from the singer's brief relationship with Frenchman Franck Chevalier. She also has a daughter with the 41-year-old Cosma Shiva Hagen. Her father is the Dutch guitarist Ferdinand Karmelk, who died in 1988.
