Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In 2021, more people were working again in the state and local authorities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As of the end of June, 74,810 employees were counted, 4.6 percent more than at the same time in 2020, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Statistical Office announced on Monday in Schwerin. Compared to the previous year, the proportion of part-time employees increased by 0.8 percentage points to 28.4. No data was available for 2022.

According to the information, the increase in personnel has continued since 2018: especially in the teaching profession and in the police force. According to the list, while the number of security guards rose from 5,605 to 6,325 in three years, the number of teachers increased from 12,070 to 13,345.

According to the statistics office, around three quarters of the employees are employed, and one quarter are civil servants or judges. In addition, around 35,000 more employees work in the state authorities than in the municipalities with 24,055. However, the increase in personnel since 2018 in the cities, municipalities and districts was 6.7 percent higher than at the state level with 5.8 percent more.
