Greifswald (dpa/mv) - The number of demonstrations in Western Pomerania-Greifswald, which was already high in the second Corona year 2021, rose again significantly in 2022. According to its own information on Wednesday, the district processed 727 notices of meetings from January to the beginning of December. In 2021 there were 488 and in 2020 277. In the pre-Corona year 2019 there were 228 according to the information. One could speak of a very high volume, said a spokesman for the district with a view to the current year.

According to the information, almost half of the gatherings were small gatherings, such as recurring vigils with up to 20 people. Meetings with more than 100 participants made up a quarter. According to the district, the topics of corona virus, energy crisis and war in Ukraine dominated in November.

In the autumn, more people took to the streets in Western Pomerania-Greifswald to protest against high energy costs. Some of the protests were also clearly critical of the government, for example in Lubmin, where there were also demonstrations pro-Russia.
