Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The day of cities and municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania demands that educational institutions, clubs and municipal companies also benefit from a possible energy price cap. "All of these are elementary components of our municipal services of general interest, which are at risk without an energy price cap, which must be prevented," said the chairman of the municipal association, Thomas Beyer, on Thursday in Schwerin.
On Wednesday, the state leaders unanimously called for the federal government to introduce a nationwide price cap for electricity, gas and heat. Only private households and companies were expressly mentioned in the resolution on demands. Beyer welcomed the agreement reached on Wednesday and described it as an important step.
Against the background of the large financial effort for implementation, however, the municipal representative is critical of overly rigid budgetary discipline: "In our view, sticking to the debt brake at federal level is therefore not up to date. Now we have to act boldly, consistently and quickly."
According to the statements, the same applies to the reform of the housing allowance. This should be designed by the federal states in such a way that it can be implemented quickly and easily at the municipal level. In this regard, Beyer pointed to a growing need for staff in the towns and communities in the north-east.
