Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Savings Banks: Increasing lending and stable profits

Berlin/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The savings banks in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania report a further increase in lending for the first half of the year. The East German Savings Banks Association announced on Thursday that new loans totaling 1.3 billion euros had been granted, exceeding the high figures for the same period last year by 8.4 percent. Despite inflation-related cost increases, the savings banks in MV therefore expect stable profits in the current year.

For companies and the self-employed, the growth in loans was 8.8 percent, for private individuals 7.1 percent. Home construction loans continued to be in high demand. According to the information, the eight institutes approved 542 million euros in loans for their own four walls - an increase of 5.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the association, deposits fell for the first time since June 2012 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by 0.4 percent to EUR 17.9 billion by mid-year. The trend towards short-term investments is continuing. At the same time, savings bank customers increasingly invested in securities in the first six months. They bought papers worth 479.6 million euros and sold them for 226.2 million euros. "The net sales amounted to 253.4 million euros and were 87 percent above the value of the same period last year," it said.
