Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Schwesig travels to Copenhagen for talks

Schwerin/Copenhagen (dpa/mv) - Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig, Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer and Science Minister Bettina Martin (all SPD) are traveling to the Danish capital Copenhagen on Monday and Tuesday to expand relations with Denmark. Among other things, a conversation with the State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Lars Frelle Petersen, and a visit to the Technical University of Denmark are planned, as the State Chancellery announced on Friday in Schwerin.

In addition, a "business meeting" organized jointly by the business development company Invest in MV and the Ministry of Economic Affairs is to take place. A reception at the German Embassy on the Day of German Unity is planned for Monday evening, at which MV is said to be a partner country this year.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is currently making a shift away from Russia towards the Baltic region in its focus on foreign trade. In September, a "Baltic Sea Business Day" took place in Rostock for the first time. The new Baltic Sea Business Conference takes the place of Russia Day, which ran from 2014 to 2021. The event was canceled after Russia invaded Ukraine.

"Denmark is one of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's most important trading partners," said Schwesig on Friday. The democratic Baltic Sea region in the heart of Europe holds enormous opportunities for MV that should be used together.

When it came to exports from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Denmark took fourth place last year. According to the State Statistical Office, goods worth 575.2 million euros went to the Scandinavian country. The main destination of exports from MV was the Netherlands with around one billion euros, followed by Great Britain and Sweden. The total export volume from MV amounted to 9.6 billion euros.
