Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Significantly fewer people in protests against energy policy

Güstrow/Waren/Neubrandenburg/Parchim (dpa/mv) - With frosty temperatures, the so-called Monday demonstrations against energy policy and against arms deliveries in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were smaller than usual this time. As police spokesmen in Rostock and Neubrandenburg said, came nationwide until the early evening just over 2500 people together. That was around a third less than in the previous week. An exact overview of the number of participants from all locations was not yet available, as some actions were still running, it said.

Protest rallies were reported from Rostock, Güstrow, Parchim, Wismar, Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz and Waren, among others. Most of the participants were registered this time with 350 people each in Waren and Neustrelitz.

The total number of people protesting is now back to the level at the beginning of September, when the actions started again. At the end of September, 11,500 people were the highest in protests against high inflation and high energy costs.

For this Thursday, an alliance of entrepreneurs from MV has again called for car parades against inflation and high energy costs, which are registered in nine cities in the north-east, including Rostock, Schwerin, Stralsund and Neubrandenburg.

In Schwerin, 170 people also came to a demonstration under the motto "For peace, cohesion and against fear", which was organized for the first time on Monday by the MV refugee council, among others.
