Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State building prize: Zarrentin official barn awarded twice

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The official barn in Zarrentin (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) is an eye-catcher and the big winner of the State Building Prize 2022. The new building won in two of the eight categories, as the Ministry of the Interior announced at the award ceremony on Monday. The official barn received the award in the "Architecture" category and as an almost zero-energy house in the "Technical Building Equipment" category. Heat and cold are generated by near-surface geothermal energy and by electricity, most of which comes from the company's own photovoltaic system on the roof.

When honoring the official barn as the best architecture, the jury praised the clear architectural design language in the historical context. The building stands on the historic monastery grounds of the small town on the Schaalsee. With its shape, the building for the administration fits into the existing development, but is immediately recognizable as a modern building.

There were other prizes for outstanding interior design, urban planning, landscape design and statics. A bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Ostorfer See in Schwerin was awarded in the "Structural Engineering" category. According to the responsible Ministry of the Interior, 53 applications were received for the twelfth state building award. The award is presented jointly by the Ministry of the Interior and Building, the Chamber of Architects, the Chamber of Engineers and the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Building Association.
