Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Unknown damage Wiekhäuser: Witnesses wanted

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - Unknown persons have damaged several Wiek houses in the medieval city wall of Neubrandenburg. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, windows were damaged in 4 of the 23 half-timbered houses, which are considered to be the figureheads of the listed city wall system. The brick city wall is surrounded by a wide rampart lined with trees. Objects are said to have been thrown from there against the windows of the Wiek houses, which burst as a result.

The past weekend was given as the time of the crime. The damage is so far estimated at a four-digit sum. The police are hoping for information from witnesses. "These Wiek houses are a brand core of our city," Mayor Silvio Witt (independent) recently explained about the importance of the listed half-timbered buildings for the city. The historic 2.3 km long city wall with its gates is the most famous sight of the four-gate city of Neubrandenburg.
