A man was killed in a traffic accident in Rahden in East Westphalia on Friday evening and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries. According to preliminary investigations, the 33-year-old's car collided head-on with the 43-year-old man's car, as the Minden-Lübbecke police control center announced on Saturday. The cause of the accident was initially unclear.

"The cars were thrown off the roadway by the force of the impact," the police report said. The driver, who was trapped in his car, died at the scene of the accident as a result of his serious injuries. The driver of the other small car was lying next to her vehicle when the rescue workers arrived. She was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter with life-threatening injuries.

The county road was closed until the early hours of the morning. Both vehicles were totaled, which the police estimated at around 10,000 euros.
