North Rhine-Westphalia: After a landslide: 25,000 tons of material for protection

Siegen (dpa / lnw) - After a landslide in a residential area in Siegen, the area that has slipped should be filled with earth to secure the site. According to the city, 25,000 tons of material are to be compacted in layers in front of the slope in order to generate counter-pressure on the slope. The measure is expected to last around ten weeks.

A week and a half ago, the slope had slid down an area about 10 meters high and 30 meters wide. Nobody got hurt. Many residents were soon able to return to their homes after an evacuation.

An apartment building near the demolition edge is still blocked. According to the city, after the planned backfilling and securing of the slope, it will be checked whether the building is stable and whether the evacuated apartments can be occupied again.
