North Rhine-Westphalia: Because of “cost explosions”: the state canteen increases the prices

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The increased prices for food reach the Düsseldorf state parliament: the canteen for politicians, employees and guests increases prices by up to 43 percent in some cases. The operator of the state parliament restaurant informed the guests.

In a letter from the caterer Klüh, which is available to the German Press Agency, it says: "You have been hearing about price increases in the food sector from the media for months. We have tried to compensate for these additional costs as best we can. Unfortunately it is we were no longer able to do this due to the recent explosion in costs."

A "price adjustment" from August 1 by an average of around 19 percent - at lunch by 11 percent - is "inevitable". The new prices and their changes are made transparent for politicians in a table. The lunch menus will only be a little more expensive - for example, one will soon cost 5.90 euros instead of 5.30 euros. Half a liter of coke at a vending machine will no longer cost 1.40 euros, but 2 euros (plus 42.9 percent).

Despite the increase, many other prices show how low they are compared to outside the state parliament: A pot of coffee at the coffee bar in the foyer, also operated by Klüh, will cost 2.20 euros in future - instead of 1.90 euros. A scoop of ice cream will now be available in the canteen for 1 euro instead of 80 cents.
