North Rhine-Westphalia: charges after the death of a 25-year-old in Saerbeck

Saerbeck (dpa / lnw) - Four months after the violent death of a 25-year-old in Saerbeck in the Steinfurt district, the Münster public prosecutor has brought charges against a neighbor. The 26-year-old is to answer before the district court of Münster for manslaughter and attempted murder. The investigators assume that the motive is insult after a rejected desire for a relationship.

The accused admitted the crime after his arrest, but did not comment on the motive. The district court must now decide whether to admit the indictment.

The prosecutor assumes two story lines. In July, the accused reported to his neighbor that he had fallen in love with her. According to the investigation, these feelings were not reciprocated by the later victim. But the two stayed in touch. At the end of September, the woman was with friends at a fair in Greven and missed the last train. The 25-year-old then picked up the woman at night.

On the way back there was an argument. It should also have been about jealousy. After insults and beatings, the woman fell to the ground shortly before reaching her apartment. The 25-year-old pulled the woman into a field and strangled her there with his hands, according to the indictment.

He later returned to the crime scene. Apparently he assumed that the 25-year-old was still alive. He packed the body in the trunk of his car and drove into a forest near Saerbeck. There he laid the woman down, stabbed her in the stomach with a knife and cut her throat. According to the autopsy, she was dead by then.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the first attack with the knife wounds should have been covered up. However, since the woman was no longer alive at that time and the crime could therefore no longer be carried out, the charge is attempted murder. The public prosecutor considers the 26-year-old to be fully culpable. He remains in custody.
