"We are making North Rhine-Westphalia the first climate-neutral industrial region in Europe" is one of the guiding principles in the black-green coalition agreement. On the way there, an industrial pact is intended to promote cooperation between all those involved.
Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the conversion of North Rhine-Westphalian industry to climate neutrality, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is relying on cooperation between all stakeholders. The so-called "Industrial Pact for Climate Neutrality and Competitiveness" was launched on Thursday. In addition to the state government, 20 industrial companies and 11 industry and technology associations have been involved so far, as the ministry reported in Düsseldorf.
The parties involved want to first develop guidelines for the climate-neutral transformation of industry. In spring, the focus will be on the topics of recycling management, use and storage of separated carbon compounds and sustainable process heat. The industry pact is designed as a process that is intended to identify ongoing measures to accelerate the conversion. The process is organized by the national company NRW.Energy4Climate.
"The industrial state of North Rhine-Westphalia is characterized by strong value-added networks and stable supply chains," explained Economics Minister Mona Neubaur (Greens). Thanks to the physical proximity and the close interdependence of the companies, production in NRW is economically attractive and sustainable at the same time. "If we design the climate-neutral transformation intelligently, we can expand these locational advantages, maintain added value and secure important jobs."
