North Rhine-Westphalia: dance teacher takes action against conviction to imprisonment

In the trial before the district court, the dance teacher accused of sexual abuse had confessed. The case is now before the regional court because the 38-year-old has appealed. He was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.

Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - Before the district court in Mönchengladbach, a dance teacher from Viersen is defending himself against his conviction for child sexual abuse. Today the court is hearing about the appeal of the 38-year-old. In May, the district court sentenced him to two years and four months in prison. The married family man, as the owner of a now-closed dance school, is said to have sexually abused four underage students in 36 cases between 2015 and 2020. The girls were between 12 and 15 years old at the time of the crime. The man had confessed to the trial and thus spared the victims a testimony in court. He later appealed the verdict.

The 38-year-old was also found guilty of one count of sexually abusing young people and possessing child pornography. With the verdict, the district court in Mönchengladbach followed the request of the public prosecutor. Out of consideration for the victims, the hearing was closed to the public. The court has planned only one day of hearing for the new procedure.
