North Rhine-Westphalia: Deadly police shots: SPD requests a special session

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the case of the deadly police shots at a 16-year-old in Dortmund, the SPD parliamentary group has requested a special session of the legal committee in the state parliament. From the point of view of the opposition, the body could meet together with the interior committee on September 8th. The reason for this is a new report by the Ministry of the Interior, which puts some of the events in Dortmund in a new light.

Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) spoke on Thursday of a new situation that resulted from the report on the current status of the investigation. The public prosecutor's office is examining whether to expand the investigation into the shooter for manslaughter. In addition, the head of operations and three other police officers who used pepper spray and tasers before the deadly shots are now being investigated.

With reference to the new report, the SPD writes in its application for a special session that further questions have now arisen "that require immediate parliamentary processing".
