North Rhine-Westphalia: demand for more money for children, security, traffic

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The leaders of the coalition government of the CDU and the Greens in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament will present amendments to the 2023 budget on Tuesday (1.30 p.m.). Last week, the state parliament discussed the budget law for the coming year in the second reading. The draft envisages spending of around 105 billion euros.

Amendments from both the government and opposition factions are part of the normal procedure for budget deliberations. The black-green coalition factions would like to propose changes with a total volume of around 75 million euros in favor of children, young people, transport, voluntary work, sport, sustainability and internal security.

This year's budget deliberations are overshadowed above all by the state audit office's massive criticism of a planned credit-financed "special fund for crisis management" for the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. However, this is to be anchored in an addendum to the 2022 budget law.
