North Rhine-Westphalia: End of the mask requirement in care facilities

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The chairwoman of the federal working group of senior citizens' organizations (Bagso), Regina Görner, welcomed the lifting of the mask requirement in care facilities. "It's a great relief," said Görner on radio station WDR 5 on Wednesday. Referring to the vaccination situation, her organization had long demanded that the strict mask requirement not be adhered to there.

Görner referred to the many people with dementia problems in old people's homes. They often have limitations in their perception and are much more dependent on the gestures and facial expressions of their conversation partners. The residents had little contact anyway and were severely restricted by the masks.

She also referred to the good vaccination status of residents in old people's homes of well over 90 percent. "Of course, that's a good basis for being able to scale back the measures."
