For the second time within a few months, the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court is hearing against a suspected Turkish spy. Both procedures are related.
Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A 47-year-old German-Turk has to answer in court in Dusseldorf because of secret service agent activity. The proceedings begin this Thursday (2 p.m.) at the Higher Regional Court.
According to the indictment, the taxi driver from Cologne had agreed in August 2021 to an alleged accomplice who had already been convicted as an agent to obtain information about alleged opponents of the Turkish regime for two Turkish secret services.
He is said to have named several Gülen supporters to the 41-year-old and sent him their data. It is said that the accused claimed during the investigation that it was never intended to pass on the information collected to the Turkish authorities.
He is also said to have sold the 41-year-old 200 rounds of live ammunition and handed them over to his apartment in Cologne. The cartridges and a list of names and profiles of supporters of the Gülen movement were found in a hotel room in Düsseldorf in September 2021 and triggered a large-scale police operation.
The Higher Regional Court sentenced the 41-year-old to a 21-month suspended sentence in July.
