North Rhine-Westphalia: Evacuated Ukrainian children landed in Dortmund

Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - More than 30 people injured or traumatized in Ukraine landed in a plane in Dortmund on Monday afternoon. About half of them are children, they and their companions were first evacuated from Odessa to Chisinau with a bus from the aid organization "Be an Angel" and then taken from there to North Rhine-Westphalia, as the organizers announced. The children should receive medical help in Germany.

Andreas Tölke from the aid organization "Be an Angel" told the dpa that one of the children who had been flown out, a twelve-year-old boy, had been seriously injured by shrapnel. He came with his grandmother. An autistic child is also on board.

According to its own statements, the private aid organization "Be an Angel" has been taking care of the evacuation of war victims from Ukraine since the beginning of March, mainly via the neighboring country of Moldova. By November, around 18,000 people had been brought to safety.

The current transports of children from the Ukraine are carried out by the German Air Ambulance and financed by donations with the support of the "A Heart for Children" campaign.
