Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - This rate of recidivism was also too high for the district judge: Because he was caught shoplifting twice within a week, a 24-year-old in Düsseldorf was sentenced to six months in prison without parole.
First, he stole a pair of sports shoes costing almost 100 euros and was sentenced to a fine in the accelerated procedure. But just a week later, he had "stolen the 200-euro tracksuit that went with the shoes," as the judge noted on Monday.
"I was cold," the accused claimed, which caused the judge to frown: he should go straight to the weather report from the day of the crime. In view of the "exorbitant rate of recidivism" and the risk of escaping, the 24-year-old went straight to prison.
